Introducing the intention behind the live painting art created at the projection mapping event in Tachikawa, Tokyo

Updated: Feb 14

TAKUROMAN appears at an event in Tachikawa

TAKUROMAN performed a live painting at the event "Tachikawa Twinkle Garden" held at Tachikawa Green Springs on January 31st.

The lighting ceremony on the day was well attended, as it was also attended by Mao Asada, who opened her own skating rink, "MAO RINK," in Tachikawa City.

Communicating the charm of the Tama region through live painting

TAKUROMAN created a piece of art through live painting to convey the charm of the Tama region. The production process was projected onto the buildings of Tachikawa Stage Garden using projection mapping, and the work was completed in front of a large audience.

The intention behind the live painting art piece

After the following narration, the live painting began.

The Tama River that connects people, the rich natural environment where animals live, and the future of the region and humanity.

All of this will be put into one painting, which will be completed in 13 minutes. Please watch until the end to see if it is completed within the time limit.

At first, many small circles appear.

Next, something like a face was drawn inside the circle.

The circles are connected by lines.

Rivers have connected people and regions.

People live differently. The lines are rivers and ways of life.

Eventually, the dots connected to form lines, color appeared within the lines, and a surface was formed.

Lines were drawn that resembled ears of rice and grass.

The Tama River's abundant water resources have developed agriculture and brought blessings to the region.

The image being drawn was projected onto a large screen using projection mapping.

A mountain-like shape was drawn. Okutama is home to mountains that are full of natural beauty.

It depicts a Japanese serow, an animal closely associated with the Tama region.

This also depicts a goat helping with weeding in the Tama area.

The Tama area is full of colorful trees.

Spring, summer, autumn, winter. The colors change for each season. When I was live painting this scene, the children who were watching with their families said out loud, "Oh, the colors change with the seasons?" It made an impression on me. I'm glad that my intention was conveyed.

Multiple layers depicting natural scenes have been fused together.

I looked back every now and then to see how I was appearing on the projection mapping screen.

Next, a large river and a group of buildings were drawn. The group of buildings were likened to piano keys, expressing the harmony between nature and the city.

Suddenly, two big eyes appear. Perhaps it was curious about human life and wandered in. What was it looking at with those big eyes?

live_painting_art 17

The seals are coming down the river. Are they okay?

live_painting_art 18

People anxiously watch over the cute lost seal. However, unless it is absolutely necessary, you should never touch it. That is how delicate the distance between humans and nature is.

live_painting_art 18

Another seal has wandered in. It seems that this seal was born in the AI ocean. (The ASCII art image was generated by AI beforehand.) What does this seal mean?

live_painting_art 19

AI seals will now swim next to lost seals. Seals are no longer alone.

All the layers of the live painting process blended together to create a single painting. The rich nature and history of the Tama region became one, transcending time. Did the lost seal return safely to the sea? What remains in the memories of the people who watched over the seal? The coexistence of nature and people that has been fostered in the Tama region. It is likely to continue to develop into the future through coexistence with AI and other cutting-edge technologies.

After finishing the drawing, TAKUROMAN explained as follows:

Thank you for watching. I would like to explain the intention behind this work.

A number of circles represent people and regions, and are connected by lines that represent rivers. Patterns of ears of rice and plants are added to these, and the dots become lines, depicting the blessings of the region that spread out over a surface.

In addition to mountains, the artist depicts animals closely associated with the Tama region, such as chamois and goats, and the group of buildings resemble piano keys to represent the harmony between nature and humans.

The seal that got lost in the river symbolizes the point of contact between humans and nature. This is intended to convey the importance of watching over other species with kindness and the sense of distance between humans and nature.

In addition, the ASCII art seal generated by AI not only represents the coexistence between people and nature that has been cultivated in the Tama region, but also alludes to the coexistence between people and AI in the future.

By combining these elements, we expressed the richness of the Tama region and its potential for the future.
